Beloved is an American novel written by Toni Morrison and published by Alfred Knopf. Insipired by an African American slave in Kentucky Margaret Garner who escaped slavery with her famliy in January 1856 fled to Ohio a free state. Sethe killed her two year old daughter rather to see her brought back to slavery. Sethe attempts to kill her other children but is unsuccesful . A woman assumed to be her daughter named Beloved returns to haunt sethes home 124 Bluestone Cincinnati, Ohio. This novel won the pulitzer prize award for fiction in 1988 and finalist for the 1987 National book award.
